Saving
With the Self-Contained Gas/Thermal Heated Ironers

Picture Gas Ironer.jpg (9703 bytes)

The Lapauw Gas/Thermal  ironer integrates an entire ironing line into one compact self-contained unit. This heating and ironing combination is designed to eliminate the need for a separate boiler and maximize energy efficiency.

The patented flexible chest, heated by thermal fluid presses the linen against a padded roll for increased production and superior finish. This pressing action combined with moisture evacuation through the roll allows the operator to iron and dry linen coming straight from a washer extractor with up to 62% moisture retention.

In addition, the flexible chest is self-aligning and provides constant contact throughout the life of the padding. This system minimizes wrinkling of the linen and ensures minimal buildup of unwanted substances, ensuring an impeccable finishing quality.

The fully insulated self-contained heating unit saves up to 30% energy through reduced heat loss, reclamation of unused heat, and enhanced efficiency.

Overall, the G ironer provides the best performance, is most economical to operate and guarantees an outstanding ironing quality.

Conservation of the Environment

The conservation of the environment has become one of the most important issues in our modern society. New investments must comply with laws governing environment which fight to preserve a better quality of living for the generations to come. In order to meet the increasingly stringent requirements, loss of performance has been experienced. Not anymore!

The Lapauw Gas/Thermal ironer generates substantial energy savings without sacrificing performance, while complying with environmental requirements.

Energy Savings

The heat is used where it is produced, which minimizes heat transfer loss from the boiler to the ironer.

In addition, the close heating circuit allows for maximum reclamation of unused heat.

To test this innovation, the famous TNO research institute located in Delft was consulted. The purpose of the research was to determine the energy consumption of the 48" diameter (1200mm) gas ironer as compared to that of a similar conventional steam-heated Lapauw ironer.

The results of this comparison demonstrate that the primary energy necessary for the heating of the Gas ironer (at a low degree of utilization) is 88% of that required for the conventional ironer. At a high degree of utilization, it further decreases to 82% -- that's 18% less energy!  When compared to a non-flexible steam chest ironer, the savings are about 12% higher -- a total of 30% energy savings!

These savings are even greater when one accounts for the heat lost in the steam pipes during transfer.

Further improvement of the overall performance of the ECO ironer is achieved by:

  • Reduction of the exhausted gas temperature.  Every 72 degrees Fahrenheit (22 Celcius) give an energy profit of 1%.
  • The use of a heat exchanger with a counterflow system assisted by 2 fans attract the incoming air towards this recovery unit.  This allows for the intake of hotter air and reduction of temperature fluctuations (performance increase of 2%).

Benefits

Compared to a conventional ironer, the Gas ironer showed the following benefits:

  • Very compact. The complete heating system is mounted inside the ironer without increasing its size.
  • Ecologically sound. With the Gas/Thermal ironer you will not have to worry about present, nor future environmental laws.
  • Energy savings. Because the heat is used where it is produced, and then continuously recycled, energy loss is virtually reduced to zero.
  • Heat flexibility. Individual temperature control on each roll allows adjustment for best possible quality of output.

The self-contained ironer should be considered by:

  • Laundries needing a new ironer and not wanting to change the existing boiler.
  • Laundries seeking to install an ironer without adding a boiler.
  • Laundries recognizing the benefits of long-term energy savings
  • Laundries that wish to iron without having to use their full-system boiler (i.e.: weekends or overtime).
  • Laundries operating where boiler pressure is regulated.

The facts noted above, convinced Lapauw and ALTEC that this machine has a great deal of potential in the world market. It surpasses current environment expectations, is cost effective and provides outstanding performance.

The Gas/Thermal ironer is available with either one or two rolls in the following diameters: 24" (600mm), 32" (800mm) and 48" (1200mm).
